(FREEPORT, N.Y.) – Nassau County residents braved a snowy night on Tuesday, Feb. 11 to learn how to grieve their assessed value during a workshop hosted by Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) and Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) at the Freeport Recreation Center.

There, assessment expert Jeff Gold, a former member of the Nassau County Board of Assessors and a former commissioner of the Assessment Review Commission (ARC), walked property owners who disagree with their assessment through the online grievance process and showed them how to most effectively challenge their assessment. The deadline to file a grievance is Monday, March 3.

“Until Nassau County’s tax rolls are unfrozen and fairness and accuracy are restored to our system, filing a grievance is one of the most powerful ways a property owner can protect themselves and their families from over taxation,” Legislator Koslow said. “We greatly appreciate Jeff Gold for taking the time to share his expertise with our constituents through this informative presentation.”

“Nassau County property owners have everything to gain and nothing to lose by filing a grievance, and Jeff Gold’s decades of experience navigating the assessment system gave our constituents tremendous insights in how best to complete this process,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “I appreciate everyone who came out on a snowy winter night to learn how to exercise their rights, and thank the Village of Freeport for hosting us.”
