(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) is urging Nassau residents to sign a petition being spearheaded by food allergy safety advocate Georgina Cornago to enact Gio’s Law in Nassau County and across America.
The petition drive was launched after Legislator Koslow filed legislation to equip every Nassau County police vehicle with EpiPens – a measure which County Executive Blakeman and Republican lawmakers have stonewalled in the Legislature to date. A previous petition by Cornago on increasing access to epi pens garnered more than 60,000 signatures.
Cornago’s son, Giovanni “Gio” Cipriano, tragically passed away in 2013 due to an allergic reaction. Since then, she has become a tireless advocate for food allergy safety, launched the Love for Giovanni Foundation, and spearheaded the enactment of Gio’s Law in New York, which allows first responders like police officers to carry epinephrine.
“Georgina has channeled her unimaginable pain into a relentless mission to prevent others from suffering the same loss, and Nassau County is in a unique position to further the cause of saving lives,” Legislator Koslow said. “When every second counts, it just makes common sense to equip our police officers – who are often the first on the scene to an allergic reaction emergency – with EpiPens. I encourage community members to sign this petition and join our efforts to enact Gio’s Law not just here in Nassau County, but all across our nation.”
