(MERRICK, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) applauded Bellmore JFK High School junior Jordana Wohlleben for her leadership and advocacy for allergy awareness in Nassau County.
Wohlleben on Tuesday, March 25 was the guest speaker at the Merrick Community Civic Association’s general meeting, where she shared her personal journey of living with severe allergies. Initially, she was diagnosed with tree nut and severe pollen allergies and began weekly allergy shots. However, after receiving injections for six months, her next weekly dose sent her into anaphylactic shock. Thankfully, the office was equipped with two epinephrine injectors and oxygen, which saved her life while the ambulance was on its way.
Wohlleben, who currently serves as the Publicity Coordinator for the Kennedy Student Government, has parlayed her experiences into allergy awareness advocacy. She is currently working with Legislator Koslow to fight for the adoption of his proposed legislation that would equip every Nassau County Police Department vehicle with epinephrine autoinjectors (EpiPens).
“On a daily basis, Jordana shows us how you’re never too young to stand up and make a difference – and her advocacy for greater allergy awareness in Nassau County is bound to save lives and give people who are living with similar challenges greater peace of mind,” Legislator Koslow said. “Her courage and grace in facing adversity is tremendously inspiring, and I am so proud to be working with her on this critical issue.”
