(MERRICK, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) partnered with the Nassau County Department of Assessment to bring the Homeowner Exemption Liaison Program (HELP) to the Merrick Library on Thursday, June 6.
During this event, Department of Assessment staff provided dozens of homeowners with individual assistance with filing for veteran, senior citizen, Cold War veteran, volunteer firefighter and ambulance worker, and limited-income disability exemptions. Enhanced STAR applications were also processed for homeowners already enrolled in the STAR program prior to Jan. 2, 2015.
“Throughout the summer, my office is partnering with the Department of Assessment to educate Nassau homeowners and protect them from over taxation,” Legislator Koslow said. “I am so glad that dozens of Merrick and Bellmore residents attended this first session, and I encourage everyone to join us at future events and ensure they are receiving every tax exemption they have earned.”
Future workshops in District 5 are set for the North Bellmore Public Library on Wednesday, July 31; and the Freeport Memorial Library on Tuesday, Aug. 20. All HELP sessions are from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. Participants are asked to arrive no later than one half-hour prior to the scheduled end time for the event and are encouraged to make copies of their 2023 federal and state tax income returns, along with required documentation listed on the exemption application, prior to attending the program.
