WHAT: Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) is partnering with the Nassau County Police Department to present an active shooter training workshop at the Merrick Library on Monday, Sept. 23.
This form of situational awareness training is to highlight the importance of preparedness in our daily lives by providing an overview of responses to fire, medical and suspicious item calls to police. Techniques drawn from these examples can then be used as building blocks when responding to a critical emergency such as an active shooter incident. The workshop is also designed to education the public on law enforcement responses to violent incidents; empower individuals to navigate threatening situations; and raise awareness of resources that are available to address trauma associated with experiencing a crisis.
“Nassau County has once again been named the safest municipality of its size in America, and that is in large part due to the outstanding work of the men and women of the Nassau County Police Department,” Legislator Koslow said. “This workshop will provide the public with valuable insights from our partners in law enforcement that can help our families prepare for an active shooter crisis and navigate them as safely as possibly. I thank Nassau PD for partnering with us on this important community forum.”
