(NORTH MERRICK and FREEPORT, N.Y.) – Prior to its Monday, March 24 meeting, Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) joined his Legislative colleagues in honoring members of the 31 Nassau County fire departments that provided mutual aid to the battle the Jennings Creek Wildfire in upstate Orange County, N.Y. last fall.
Their service spanned Wednesday, Nov. 13 until the last deployment on Tuesday, Nov. 19, and upstate fire officials said Long Island departments were notable for the significant amount of mutual aid that they mustered for the emergency response. This led Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) begin working closely with fire officials and leaders of the Legislature to coordinate Monday’s celebration.

“In Nassau County, there is more that unites us than divides us – and one such concept that we rally behind is our deep appreciation for our long and rich tradition of the volunteer fire service,” Legislator Koslow said. “Monday’s presentation is a testament to the deep commitment these men and women share to serving and protecting others – even when the call of duty comes from far away. We are fortunate to have such courageous and caring people in our County and I am grateful for their willingness to respond to this emergency.”
