(GLEN COVE, N.Y.) – One day before International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) joined the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County on Sunday, Jan. 26 for a ceremony marking the solemn occasion. This year’s program featured second generation Holocaust survivor Dr. Bernie Furshpan, whose parents were born in Poland and endured unimaginable losses before emigrating to Israel. Born in Israel and raised in Brooklyn, Dr. Furshpan shared his family’s story and presented an excerpt from the acclaimed film “Shoah.”
“By shining a light upon one of history’s darkest chapters, the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County is performing a tremendous service,” Legislator Koslow said. “Let us commemorate the lives of the six million Jews and millions more who were murdered during the Holocaust and honor the survivors of this atrocity by redoubling our efforts to educate future generations and confront antisemitism and hatred wherever, whenever, and however it manifests itself.”
