(FREEPORT, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) joined her colleagues in government in celebrating the contributions of three distinguished Freeport community leaders during the Incorporated Village of Freeport’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday celebration at the Freeport Recreation Center on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
Honorees included Pastor Harold Banarsee, Senior Pastor of the Church of God of Freeport; longtime Freeport resident, school advocate and Dollars for Scholars Vice-President JoAnn Beauford; and Freeport High School bilingual Social Studies teacher Jose Ortiz, who is active in various student organizations as a coach or adviser.
“Each of these outstanding individuals has dedicated themselves to achieving the mission set forth by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and enriching the lives of all they encounter,” Legislator Mulé said. “As we commemorate the life of this iconic figure in the civil rights movement, it’s fitting to commemorate those who embody the spirit of Dr. King’s message.”
