[ARCHIVED] Mulé Joins South Hempstead Community to Rename Road in Honor of FDNY Member Henry Hinton

Mule - Henry Hinton Road Renaming

(SOUTH HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) joined the South Hempstead community, the Hinton family and her colleagues in local government on Saturday, May 22 to commemorate the ceremonial renaming of Irene Street in South Hempstead in honor of FDNY member and 9/11 first responder Henry Hinton.

Hinton, who had recently completed a 20-year career in the FDNY prior to the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, rushed to Manhattan to assist with the response and recovery efforts. These selfless efforts resulted in Hinton being stricken with lung cancer, and he succumbed to his 9/11-related illness in January.

“Henry Hinton was committed, as his family recalled so eloquently, to his mission to always ‘leave a place better than you left it.’ Throughout his life, he did so by serving his community and the great City of New York during his career in the FDNY through his tireless advocacy and involvement in the South Hempstead community,” Legislator Mulé said. “Renaming Irene Street in his honor is a fitting tribute to his legacy and commitment to his community, and it was a privilege to be a part of this meaningful and moving ceremony.”
