[ARCHIVED] Legislator Curran & NCPD to Host “Coffee with a Cop” Event in Baldwin

(BALDWIN, NY) – Nassau County Legislator Laura Curran (D-Baldwin) will be sponsoring a “Coffee with a Cop” event in Baldwin on Monday, October 16, 2017. Residents can stop by the Baldwin Public Library (2385 Grand Avenue, Baldwin), anytime from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, and meet officers from the Nassau County Police Department’s First Precinct. There will be free coffee for adults and hot chocolate for kids, generously donated by Sweet & Savory Café in Baldwin.

The purpose of the event is to create a casual environment for residents (young and old), to interact with the police officers and engage in conversation. It is an opportunity for the public to learn more about what it’s like to be a police officer, and to make the officers aware of issues that may be going on in a particular neighborhood. This event is open to adults and children of all ages!

“I am excited to partner with the Nassau County Police Department, the Baldwin Public Library, and Sweet & Savory Café, on our first Coffee with a Cop event,” said Legislator Curran. “This initiative has been successful in increasing positive discourse among police officers and residents in various communities across the country. I am looking forward to bringing this event to my district, and am hopeful that it will help strengthen the relationships between our officers and residents.”

About the Coffee with a Cop Initiative

Coffee with a Cop began as a grassroots initiative in March 2011 in Hawthorne, California. The initiative was an effort to better understand the needs and concerns of community residents. Since then, Coffee with a Cop’s mission of breaking down the barriers between police officers and the citizens they serve has successfully spread to all 50 states and nine countries.
