STATEMENT: Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé Reacts
to Newsday Investigation into Discrimination in LI Housing Market
“While I was horrified and dismayed by the findings of Newsday’s investigation into discrimination in Long Island’s housing market, I sadly cannot say that I was truly surprised.
As a Uniondale native, longtime Freeport resident and representative of communities that have been unjustly disparaged by certain realtors, I can unequivocally state that every corner of the Fifth Legislative District is filled with wonderful places to live and raise a family. When my husband Steve and I were looking for a home, we chose Freeport because we knew that raising a family in a community rich with history and diversity would benefit our children.
I fully agree with the calls for federal and state investigations into these nefarious practices and look forward to supporting efforts at the County level that will once and for all break a vicious cycle of discrimination that is not only illegal, but truly un-American.”
