(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – On Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023 New York State Governor Kathy Hochul announced her request for a Major Disaster Declaration related to a substantial late-September rainstorm that deluged Nassau County. On Jan. 31, 2024, Governor Hochul announced that the Biden administration has approved the State’s request.
Following the announcement, Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) issued the following statement:
“By securing an approval for a Major Disaster Declaration from the Biden administration, Governor Hochul and her team have done a tremendous service for the residents of Nassau County and especially those residing in Merrick, Freeport and other south shore communities that bore the brunt of this historic rainstorm,” Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) said. “Now that we have this opportunity, it is vital for our region to take full advantage of the resources that are now at our disposal to invest in our infrastructure and safeguard our families from extreme weather incidents that are increasingly being fueled by climate change.”
