WHAT - Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) will join with Baldwin community leaders and the friends and loved ones of Caroline McCahon for a sign-unveiling ceremony to celebrate the official renaming of ‘Caroline’s Pond’ at Silver Lake Park in Baldwin.
Caroline McCahon, who unexpectedly passed at the age of 27 in 1990, was a beloved and respected member of the Oceanside and Baldwin communities. In previous years, community members honored Caroline’s memory by planting a cherry tree near a pond in Silver Lake Park and installing a plaque in her honor.
For many years, that pond has been informally referred to as Caroline’s Pond - a name that was unofficially picked up by New York State, local entities, community members and even Google Maps. In March, Legislator Mulé’s proposal to officially rename the park Caroline’s Pond was passed unanimously by the Nassau County Legislature.
