(STONY BROOK, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) was the keynote speaker for Running Start’s Eighth Annual “Elect Her” program at Stony Brook University on Friday, Nov. 15.
Running Start’s “Elect Her” program provides a free, non-partisan workshop designed to teach women how to run successful campaigns for student government and political office. According to research cited by Running Start, engaging women in politics in high school and college is key to increasing the number of women in public office, and that more than half of America’s Congresswomen got their start in student government.
“I was excited to share my experience and insight with our leaders of tomorrow,” Legislator Mulé said. “It’s important to learn that there’s more than one path to elected office. I am truly inspired by Running Start’s efforts to promote gender equity and greater opportunities for women in politics and was grateful for the opportunity to speak to this impressive group of emerging leaders.”
