(FREEPORT, NY) – Nassau County Legislator Laura Curran (D-Baldwin) and members of New York State Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Cabinet hosed a successful budget presentation at Freeport Memorial Library on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, where Nassau County residents had the opportunity to learn about Gov. Cuomo’s 2014 Budget and legislative agenda.
The event was well attended by residents from all over Nassau. To kick-off the program and presentation portion of the meeting, Legislator Curran introduced Department of Labor Commissioner Peter Rivera, briefly describing his long, committed career in public service, and emphasized the importance of being able to engage and communicate with government at all levels. Commissioner Rivera’s presentation included the Governor’s State Budget and included discussion of education, disaster preparedness and health care, among others.
“The presentation was a great opportunity for us to learn about the nuts and bolts of the governor’s budget,” said Legislator Curran. “The audience came well informed on the issues, and asked great questions. The more we can shine a light on how government works, and engage the community, the better.”
Following the presentation, attendees were well-prepared with many questions for Commissioner Rivera. Other elected officials in attendance were Freeport Mayor Robert Kennedy and Assemblyman Brian Curran.
