WHAT - To ensure every student has the essentials they need for a strong start to the 2023-24 school year, Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) is teaming up with TRIMZ Barber Shop owner Leon Levar Broughton to host the 19th annual CUTZ FOR EDU back-to-school giveaway for Legislative District 5 and 6 students from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24.

Backpacks and school supplies will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to play games and enjoy music by DJ Sour, face painters, light refreshments and snacks, and receive free haircuts from TRIMZ Barber Shop, sneakers from Heeling Soles, school supplies and other essentials while supplies last.

The event is presented in partnership with Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D – Freeport); Heeling Soles, Inc. and Steve Muir; and Glory House Recovery, Inc. and Terenna Williams, with support from the Incorporated Village of Freeport and sponsors Affinity by Molina Healthcare; Anthem BlueCross BlueShield; Barber and Beauty Institute of New York; Blueprint MD; Creative Focus Designs; Freeport Garage Door Company, Inc.; Freeport Red Ravens Athletic Club; 4M Photos; Habits Basketball; New Movement; Papa John’s Pizza; Philly Steak; RGR Lavish Exotics; Unitees; the U.S. Air Force; and more.

For nearly two decades, CUTZ FOR EDU has equipped scores of local youngsters to confidently return to the school year, and its longevity and success was rooted in a longstanding partnership between Broughton and former Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams. Upon Minority Leader Abrahams’ retirement from the Legislature at the end of 2023, Legislator Koslow joined forces with Broughton to continue this popular back-to-school tradition.

Parents and guardians are asked to remember that children and the adult must be together when receiving haircuts and picking up school supplies, sneakers, and other items. For more information or to register as a vendor, please contact Legislator Koslow’s office at 516-571-6205 or skoslow@nassaucountyny.gov.
