(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - On Monday, New York State Attorney General Letitia James sued an anti-abortion group, Heartbeat International, and its affiliated “crisis pregnancy centers” for disseminating and promoting dangerous misinformation about so-called “abortion pill reversal” (APR) treatment.
The lawsuit alleges that the group and its affiliates - three of which operate on Long Island -falsely promote APR as a safe, effective treatment to reverse a medication abortion. There is no scientific evidence demonstrating that APR is an effective treatment, and the only clinical trial conducted on the subject was stopped due to concerns about patient safety.
Following the announcement of the lawsuit, Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) issued the following statement:
“I applaud Attorney General James for holding this group and these centers accountable for spreading dangerous misinformation to women making intensely personal decisions - especially at a time when reproductive rights are under attack nationwide,” Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) said. “As the father of two daughters, it comforts me to know that we have such a strong leader who will take on these fights as our top law enforcement official. In the Empire State and on Long Island, we will always protect reproductive freedom.”
