(BALDWIN, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) secured $169,241 in bond authorization in Nassau County’s Fiscal Year 2025 Capital Infrastructure Plan to fund the Baldwin Fire Department’s purchase of a new bucket truck.
The Wednesday, April 23 vote to allocate the funds as part of a $1.3 million package of capital plan funding and bond authorizations for 14 public safety agencies represents a major victory for the Minority Caucus. Democratic lawmakers successfully leveraged their votes on the capital infrastructure plan – which requires a 13-vote supermajority to pass - to end the Blakeman administration’s more than yearlong freeze on first responder grants and other crucial community projects for districts represented by Democratic legislators.
Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé first applied for this funding with the County administration on Dec. 15, 2023.
“Baldwin’s volunteer fire department is now in its 130th year of selfless, life-saving service – and our support of their vital mission must be as unwavering as their commitment to protecting the public,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “It fills me with tremendous pride and gratitude that the members of the Democratic Minority Caucus prevailed in its fight to not only to secure these funds for the Baldwin Fire Department, but for deserving first responders all across Nassau County.”
