(BALDWIN, SOUTH HEMPSTEAD and ROOSEVELT, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) proudly announces that she and her Democratic Minority Caucus colleagues secured an agreement with the County administration that delivers nearly $4 million in funding for major road projects in South Hempstead, Roosevelt, and Baldwin.
The unanimous vote on Monday, Sept. 23 includes $2 million in bond authorization for the second phase of improvements to Long Beach Road in South Hempstead, $1.1 million in bond authorization for the Babylon Turnpike streetscape/traffic safety project in Roosevelt, and $800,000 in bond authorization for the second phase of the Grand Avenue streetscape, from Stanton Avenue north to the Southern State Parkway, in Baldwin, building upon already completed work spanning Merrick Avenue to Stanton Avenue.
The projects are being funded through a package of amendments to the 2023 Capital Plan and bond authorizations that will fund major investments in road infrastructure, public safety, Nassau Community College. Moreover, the agreement includes $1.75 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding for Hempstead Village to embark upon the initial stage of critical improvements necessary to remove 1, 4 dioxane from its drinking water.
“Securing and upgrading Nassau County’s aging infrastructure will always be one of my top priorities as a lawmaker, and I am committed to working alongside my colleagues to ensure that every community receives a fair and equitable investment in its future,” Legislator Mulé said. “I am thankful that the Democratic Minority stood together to secure an agreement that includes $3.9 million in bond authorizations for critical traffic safety and streetscape initiatives across the Sixth Legislative District.”
