(HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) attended the grand opening of a community-friendly lactation space at the Nassau County Department of Health’s Office of Health Equity on Friday, Feb. 7. Launched in partnership with Northwell Health, the space features a private, comfortable area for moms to breastfeed or pump, with seating, a refrigerator for milk storage, and maternal health resources. The Department of Health also announced plans to launch a free, monthly Lactation Support Group in English and Spanish for breastfeeding mothers. “Nassau County has a vital role to play in supporting mothers as they begin their journeys as parents, and providing these resources will go a long way toward making our children and our communities healthier and stronger,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “I applaud the Department of Health for taking this step and I look forward to this becoming a model for services all across Nassau County.
