(FREEPORT, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) and Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) on Saturday, Feb. 8 presented a $22,348 grant to Freeport-based Ladles of Hope, which will be applied toward its hunger-fighting mission. The Legislature voted unanimously on Wednesday, Nov. 20 in favor of releasing American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding in support of this endeavor.

Based at Our Holy Redeemer R.C. Church in Freeport, Ladles of Hope, Inc. is a not-for-profit volunteer organization and 501 (c)(3) corporation that serves individuals and families in need through soup kitchens and pantries. The organization is fully volunteer-powered and operates entirely on private donations.

“Throughout their decades of philanthropy, Ladles of Hope has distinguished itself as a model for grassroots advocacy in the ongoing battle to end food insecurity across Nassau County,” Legislator Koslow said. “Their commitment to aiding our community’s most vulnerable families is unwavering and truly admirable, and I was proud to present them with an ARPA grant that will help them continue their important work.”

“For many years, I have been a cantor and parishioner at Our Holy Redeemer where Ladles of Hope is based. During that time, their team of dedicated volunteers has done so much to assist families in need throughout our region,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “I congratulate the leaders of this outstanding organization for their continued pursuit of their mission of mercy, which will be aided by the resources Legislator Koslow secured for them.”

“Ladles of Hope, Inc. is extremely thankful to the Nassau County Legislature for the more than $22,000 ARPA Grant Award,” Ladles of Hope President Billy D’Alessio and Treasurer Sandy Matheson said. “Prices are going up on everything, and these funds will help support our programs for the needy. It will go towards food, clothing, toiletries, and cleaning supplies for the needy that pass through our doors.”
