Approval by the full Legislature could come as soon as Wednesday, Nov. 20.
(BALDWIN, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) is thrilled to announce that the food pantry at the Roman Catholic Church of St. Christopher in Baldwin is on track to receive a $50,000 grant in support of its hunger-fighting food ministry.
The Legislature’s Rules committee voted unanimously on Wednesday, Nov. 13 in favor of releasing the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding; final approval from the full Nassau County Legislature could come as early as its scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 20 meeting.
“During the pandemic and in its aftermath, food insecurity has been one of the most heartbreaking effects, and no community has been exempt from this challenge,” Legislator Mulé said. “For years, the food ministry at St. Christopher’s has done outstanding work to meet the needs of the Baldwin community and neighboring areas, and a $50,000 influx of resources will have a monumental impact upon its ability to combat hunger. I am gratified that the Rules committee has approved this grant and am hopeful that it will receive similarly unanimous approval from the full Legislature on Nov. 20.”
