(UNIONDALE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) on Tuesday, Dec. 17 presented a $10,000 grant to Sharon Masrour and the leaders of Nassau: Empowerment and Support for Tomorrow (the NEST) at Nassau Community College in support of its philanthropic mission. The Legislature voted unanimously on Wednesday, Nov. 20 in favor of releasing American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding in support of the 501 (c)3 not-for-profit organization.
The NEST is focused on promoting health and wellness by maintaining a free-choice pantry that provides food, personal care items, and support services to students, employees, and families in need. Their philanthropic efforts are supported by the College community, Long Island Cares and Island Harvest, corporate donors, civic and religious organizations, and more.
During the visit, Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé and her staff also delivered dozens of bags filled with donations that were gathered during her office’s successful winter food drive at the Roosevelt and Baldwin Libraries and the South Hempstead Fire Department headquarters.
“All throughout the year, the wonderful team at the NEST commits itself to selfless service in the fight to end food insecurity,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “I know that these ARPA funds will go a long way toward fulfilling the NEST’s vision by empowering them to deliver essential support for countless deserving families throughout the region.”
