Debra Mulé Named Alternate Deputy Minority Leader of Nassau County Legislature’s Democratic Caucus

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – Debra S. Mulé, now in her fourth full term of service to Nassau County, has been named the Alternate Deputy Minority Leader of the Legislature’s Democratic caucus.

Mulé was appointed to the role on Friday, Jan. 3 by Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) following the departure of former Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Siela A. Bynoe, who became a New York State Senator on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Mulé will serve in leadership alongside Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton and Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview).

“For more than two decades, public service has been at the forefront of my life – a journey that has led me from my local PTA to my school board, village board and now the Legislature,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “Being elevated to this role is a high honor and a tremendous responsibility, and I am deeply grateful for the trust that Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton has placed in me to fight for the residents of Nassau County.”

Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé joined the Legislature in 2018 and currently represents the Sixth Legislative District, which encompasses the communities of Baldwin, Roosevelt and South Hempstead and portions of Freeport and Oceanside. She is the ranking member on the Veterans and Senior Affairs committees and serves on the Legislature’s Finance, Towns, Villages & Cities, Economic & Community Development, and Minority Affairs committees.

During her seven years in the Legislature, Mulé has delivered on a series of long-awaited priorities for her constituents and has keenly focused upon delivering tens of millions of dollars to rehabilitate Nassau County's aging infrastructure and distinguished herself as one of the preeminent voices on efforts to fix Nassau County’s broken and inequitable assessment system. Legislatively, Mulé co-sponsored a precedent-setting ban on the non-consensual sharing of intimate images that went statewide, as well as a ban on single-use Styrofoam products and legislation to reduce the use of single-use plastic and paper bags.
