WHAT: Nassau County Legislators Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) and Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) are partnering with the Westbury-based Thrive Recovery Center to host a Narcan training session at 6:30 p.m. at the Freeport Memorial Library on Thursday, April 18.
In addition to learning how to spot the signs of an opiate overdose, participants will also be shown how to administer intranasal Naloxone to reverse an overdose and learn about new approaches to treating addiction. Every person who completes the course will receive a Narcan kit and a certificate of completion.
“Amidst the scourge of the opioid epidemic and the ever-present threat of fentanyl, it is more essential than ever for every Nassau County resident to be ready to respond to an overdose,” Legislator Koslow said. “Please join us at the Freeport Memorial Library on April 18 to receive the life-saving training that will ensure you are ready to spring into action at a moment’s notice.”
“Every person who is struggling with the disease of addiction deserves the opportunity to reclaim their life and achieve long-term, sustainable recovery ,” Legislator Mulé said. “As a social worker, I encourage everyone to receive Narcan training so that you are equipped with the knowledge and the tools that may one day empower you to save a person’s life.”
