(ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) and Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Debra Mulé (D – Freeport) have secured $32,348 in bond authorization in Nassau County’s Fiscal Year 2025 Capital Infrastructure Plan to fund the Incorporated Village of Rockville Centre’s purchase of a new ambulance.
The Wednesday, April 23 vote to allocate the funds as part of a $1.3 million package of capital plan funding and bond authorizations for 14 public safety agencies represents a major victory for the Minority Caucus. Democratic lawmakers successfully leveraged their votes on the capital infrastructure plan – which requires a 13-vote supermajority to pass - to end Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman’s more than yearlong freeze on first responder grants and other crucial community projects for districts represented by Democratic legislators.
Paired with American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding the Legislators previously secured in support of this investment in public safety, the capital plan funding completes a commitment by Legislator Davis and Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé to secure $150,000 in County support for the new ambulance.
Legislator Davis and Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé jointly applied for this funding with the Blakeman administration on Dec. 2, 2024.
“As a Rockville Centre resident and the Village’s representative in the Legislature, I have firsthand knowledge of how diligently our volunteer firefighters and EMS personnel work to serve and protect our communities – and I will not waver in the pursuit of their fair and equitable share of County resources,” Legislator Davis said. “By standing together, the Minority Caucus has prevailed in our fight to fund our first responders, and I am proud to have worked with Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé and all of our colleagues to secure these vital funds.”
“I had the privilege of directly representing the residents of Rockville Centre in the Legislature until the end of 2023, and I made a commitment to the Village that I would support their efforts to update their ambulance fleet,” Alternate Deputy Minority Leader Mulé said. “The Minority Caucus has fulfilled that promise, and I am so grateful to Legislator Davis and all of my colleagues for their resolve in standing up for our first responders.”
