(HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.) – With Memorial Day travel fast approaching, Nassau County Legislator Scott M. Davis (D – Rockville Centre) is encouraging Nassau motorists and passengers to buckle up for safety ahead of, during and beyond the holiday weekend.
During a special enforcement period starting May 19 and concluding June 2, Hempstead Village will participate in the “Click it or Ticket” seatbelt enforcement initiative. New York State law requires all drivers and passengers – whether in the front or back seat- to wear seatbelts or appropriate child safety seats when traveling in an automobile.
“Buckling up isn’t just the law – it’s one of the simplest things you can do to stay safe in your daily life,” Legislator Davis said. “Statistics show that wearing a seatbelt reduces your risk of fatal or serious injury by nearly half, and that alone should be enough to take this step to protect yourself and your family every time you drive. I appreciate the Hempstead Police Department and all of our partners in law enforcement across Nassau County for taking part in this vital public safety awareness campaign.”
