(PLAINVIEW, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) proudly supported “The Power of Belongings – Helping Teens Carry On” – at the Howard B. Matlin Middle School in Plainview on Tuesday, April 2. Presented by Birthday Wishes of Long Island, the Mid Island YJCC, the Plainview-Old Bethpage Chamber of Commerce, and the Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District PTAs, faculty, students and administration, the initiative seeks to aid Long Island teens living in homeless shelters or foster care by filling 400 duffel bags with supplies.
The inspiration and driving force behind this event is Regina Calcaterra, who overcame a childhood marked by homelessness, abuse, neglect and abandonment to become a successful attorney, New York Times best-selling author, and Suffolk County’s first woman Chief Deputy County Executive during the administration of former County Executive Steve Bellone.
“I am so inspired by how the Plainview-Old Bethpage community came together to support teens in crisis and give them hope for a brighter future,” Deputy Minority Leader Drucker said. “The power of compassion, kindness, and community was on full display, and I am deeply grateful to Regina for her leadership and the organizers, volunteers, and donors who made this event possible through their selfless efforts. Let this event be a catalyst for all of us to keep working together to make a difference in the world!”
