(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – On Monday, May 6, the Rules committee of the Nassau County Legislature voted 4-3 along party lines to approve a $5,000 special counsel contract, filed 11 months retroactively, with Greenberg Traurig LLP to represent the County before the U.S. Patent and Trademark office for the registration of the trademark “NASSAU COUNTY, GOLDEN FROM COAST TO COAST”.
Following the vote, Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) issued the following statement:
“Above and beyond my fundamental objection to the Blakeman administration’s 125th anniversary self-promotional spree, who the heck is going to steal that slogan?” Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) said. “Taxpayers are now on the hook for another $5,000 from the general fund in addition to the $10 million in federal pandemic relief money that would be better spent elsewhere. There is simply no justification for asking taxpayers to pay for this type of legal service – especially when it is totally unnecessary.”
