Drucker on AG James’ Cease and Desist Order on Blakeman Transgender Sports Order

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – On Thursday, Feb. 22, Nassau County Executive Bruce A. Blakeman signed an executive order requiring “representatives from sports leagues will have to affirm in writing that trans athletes are not competing in girls’ sports to obtain the right to use the county-run or owned athletic facilities or ballfields,” according to published reports.

Today, New York Attorney General Letitia James issued a cease and desist order to Nassau County demanding that the order be reversed within five days.

Following today’s action, Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) issued the following statement:

“I applaud Attorney General James for emphatically denouncing the County Executive’s brazen order for exactly what it is - unlawful, mean-spirited discrimination against the transgender community that has nothing to do with his role as County Executive,” Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) said.

“County Executive Blakeman must live up to his oath to protect all Nassau County residents and immediately rescind this order. Failing to do so will place Nassau on a collision course with costly litigation that we are likely to lose, and there are so many worthwhile things that we should be spending taxpayers’ hard-earned money on instead of defending this divisive political stunt,” Deputy Minority Leader Drucker concluded.
