Drucker Applauds Rules Committee Approval of $950K ARPA Grant for Mid Island Y JCC

(PLAINVIEW, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D - Plainview) is thrilled to announce that the Plainview-based Mid Island Y JCC is on track to receive a $950,000 grant in support of vital programming that advances its cultural and community service missions.

The Legislature’s Rules committee voted unanimously on Wednesday, Nov. 13 in favor of releasing the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding for this endeavor; final approval from the full Nassau County Legislature could come as early as its scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 20 meeting.

The funds are being drawn from $15 million in ARPA funds that, at the Democratic Minority’s urging, were set aside from Nassau’s $385 million overall allotment at the start of the year for eligible not-for-profit organizations and special districts that deliver ARPA-approved services.

The mission of the Mid-Island Y JCC is to provide “vital services and foster Jewish identity, personal growth, family strength and community” and offer an array of programs and services that are open to everyone in the community serving individuals of all ages, abilities and challenges.

“Throughout the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mid Island Y JCC was an around-the-clock community hub where Rick Lewis and his outstanding team served as a conduit for essential public health services, comfort and direction during an unprecedented crisis,” Deputy Minority Leader Drucker said. “In doing so, they expended tremendous resources, and this influx of ARPA funding will go a long way toward recouping losses and equipping them to continue serving our community. Now more than ever, I am proud to stand with the Mid Island Y JCC as it continues to pursue its vital mission, and I look forward to this grant receiving unanimous approval on Nov. 20.”
