(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) commemorated February as Black History Month in America by attending the County’s dome lighting ceremony and celebration on Wednesday, Feb. 5. Hosted by the Office of the County Executive and the Office of Minority Affairs, the event celebrated the contributions of four community leaders – Rev. Lynnwood Deans, pastor of Bethlehem of Judea Baptist Church in Hempstead, AHRC Nassau CEO Stanfort Perry, Hempstead Chamber of Commerce President LaShawn Lukes, and Nassau County Office of Youth Services Director and Freeport resident Ladonna Taylor for their achievements and service to the greater community.
“Black History Month is more than just a time to celebrate the leaders who uplift and enrich every aspect of our daily lives - it is an opportunity to delve into learning the true scope of the history that forms the foundation of our society and recommit ourselves to applying those lessons toward creating a more equitable America that uplifts everyone,” Deputy Minority Leader Drucker said. “It was a pleasure to recognize the accomplishments of these distinguished honorees and reflect upon how to carry the spirit of Black History Month with us all throughout the year.”
