WHAT - Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D - Plainview) and the District 16 Remote Internship Program invite all students grades 6 to 12 to register for his office’s upcoming Nassau County AAPI Youth Roundtable, a virtual forum being hosted in partnership with Nassau County Legislator Joshua Lafazan (Woodbury) and the County’s Office of Asian American Affairs.
The forum, which is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 17, is designed to provide youth an empowering opportunity to connect with students of all backgrounds across Nassau County and discuss the recent surge in anti-Asian American/Pacific Islander (AAPI) hate across the country. Scheduled topics include:
- Discussion on recent incidents of hate
- Common situations where hate may occur
- Origins of hate and discrimination
- Suggestions for how to prevent hate and discrimination
- Why are certain areas or communities impacted more?
Students will lead and facilitate group discussions in breakout rooms with their peers, and then reconvene to share concerns directly with County government representatives and present potential solutions.
Pre-registration is required and can be completed at http://bit.ly/NassauAAPIYouthRoundtable. Registrants will receive an email containing the Zoom link for the event by 5 p.m. on Monday, May 17.
