[ARCHIVED] Legislator Drucker’s Proposal to Provide Property Tax Relief for COVID19

(MINEOLA, N.Y.) - Members of the Nassau County Legislature voted unanimously on Monday, Aug. 3 to approve a local law, first introduced by Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D - Plainview), to give surviving family members of health care workers and first responders who succumbed to COVID-19 relief from tax penalties and interest.

First filed by Legislator Drucker on June 3, 2020, the local law gives the families and estates of deceased qualified healthcare workers and first responders until Dec. 8, 2020 to pay their second half general property taxes without incurring late-payment penalties or added interest.

The local law was first approved by the members of the Legislature’s Rules committee on Monday, July 13 and will take effect upon the signature of Nassau County Executive Laura Curran.

“Nassau County’s frontline healthcare workers and first responders formed the unbreakable foundation of our region’s response to the most challenging moments of the COVID-19 pandemic, and we must never forget the men and women who lost their lives while caring for others,” Legislator Drucker said. “Our gratitude for these fallen hometown heroes is unending, and I hope today’s action brings a measure of comfort to their families.”
