DeRiggi-Whitton Secures Over $110,000 in FY 2025 Capital Plan for Glen Cove First Responders

(GLEN COVE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) has secured $110,527 in bond authorization in Nassau County’s Fiscal Year 2025 Capital Infrastructure Plan for Glen Cove first responders – including $73,127 for turnout gear for the Glen Cove Fire Department and $37,400 for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) devices for City of Glen Cove EMS.

The Wednesday, April 23 vote to allocate the funds as part of a $1.3 million package of capital plan funding and bond authorizations for 14 public safety agencies represents a major victory for the Minority Caucus. Democratic lawmakers successfully leveraged their votes on the capital infrastructure plan – which requires a 13-vote supermajority to pass - to end the Blakeman administration’s more than yearlong freeze on first responder grants and other crucial community projects for districts represented by Democratic legislators.

Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton applied for the turnout gear funding on Aug. 10, 2023 and the CPR devices on Aug. 8, 2022.

“Glen Cove has been my home for nearly my entire life, and the brave and dedicated local firefighters and EMS members are the embodiment of the selfless public servants across our County that deserve to be treated with respect and equipped with the resources they need to stay safe,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “For Glen Cove, this vital funding has been many years in the making, and I am thankful to my caucus for the shared and unwavering commitment to funding Nassau County’s first responders that made this victory possible.”
