(PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) thanked New York State for awarding a $5 million grant to the Port Washington Water District. The funds, which are part of a $273 million initiative to deliver financial assistance for water infrastructure improvement projects across New York State, will be applied toward the construction of a granular activated carbon treatment system that will remove the emerging contaminants PFOA and PFOS from District Well No. 7.
“This $5 million grant from New York State will equip the Port Washington Water District to build state-of-the-art water treatment infrastructure that will achieve a goal we all share – ensuring that our constituents and all Nassau County residents have safe, clean and affordable drinking water,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I applaud Governor Hochul for recognizing the importance of this vital project for Port Washington, and I congratulate the leaders of the Port Washington Water District for successfully securing this major grant.”
