(GLEN COVE, N.Y.) - To help local students enter the 2021-2022 school year with the tools they need to learn and thrive, Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D - Glen Cove) partnered with the Nassau County and Glen Cove Police Benevolent Associations (PBA) to host a backpack giveaway event outside Glen Cove High School on Wednesday, Aug. 25.
Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton joined volunteers to distribute school supplies and 1,500 backpacks, which were donated by the Nassau PBA. Leaders of the Glen Cove Police Benevolent Association and City of Glen Cove Auxiliary Police Department were on hand to direct traffic and provide logistical assistance to help ensure the smooth operation of the drive-through and walk-up event.
“Thanks to the generosity of Nassau County PBA and the support of Glen Cove’s PBA and Auxiliary Police Department, nearly 1,500 students received the tools they need to dive into their studies with confidence as they embark upon a new school year,” Legislator DeRiggi-Whitton said. “It was so great to see the happy faces of so many students - and we were all glad that we could help make it a little easier for the parents this year! It is always a pleasure to work alongside my partners in law enforcement and the Glen Cove School District, all of whom do so much to make this event a tremendous success year after year.”
