DeRiggi-Whitton, Nassau County PBA Host Back-To-School Backpack Giveaway at Glen Cove High School

Delia - Back to School Giveaway 2024 - 1

(GLEN COVE, N.Y.) – More than 500 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed at a backpack giveaway event hosted by Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D - Glen Cove) and the Nassau County Police Benevolent Association (PBA) at Glen Cove High School on Thursday, Aug. 22.

The Nassau County PBA donated the backpacks and school supplies for the event, which helped to equip students for a strong start to the 2024-25 school year. Event-day logistical support was provided by the Glen Cove PBA, Glen Cove Auxiliary Police Department and the City of Glen Cove Department of Public Works.

“This event is one of my favorite community traditions, and it is such a joy to see so many smiles on the faces of our children after they select their new backpack,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “We are all tremendously thankful to Nassau PBA President Tommy Shevlin and his entire team for their generosity, Glen Cove City School District Superintendent Dr. Maria Rianna for hosting us at the high school, and the Glen Cove PBA, Glen Cove Auxiliary Police and City of Glen Cove DPW staff for their assistance with running the event and keeping everyone safe. I wish everyone a wonderful and successful 2024-25 school year!”
