(PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) partnered with New York State to host an emergency preparedness workshop at the Port Washington Public Library on Thursday, May 16.
A capacity crowd of 150 registered for the workshop, which was presented by Sergeants First Class Johnson and Mateo from the Army National Guard. Participants were provided with the tools and resources to create a family plan for any type of natural or man-made disaster, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions.
Each family participating received a free Citizen Preparedness Corps Response Starter Kit filled with emergency prep essentials like a radio, flashlight, batteries, freshwater packets, food packs, heavy-duty gloves, tarp, emergency blanket, water container, glow stick and whistle.
“Hurricane season will be here before we know it – and the recent earthquake that Long Island experienced was an important reminder for all of us that we need be prepared for the unexpected,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I am so thankful to New York State for their continued partnership in bringing the Citizens Preparedness Corps to our communities and I look forward to hosting more events with them in the future.
