(PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) is thrilled to announce that the Port Washington-based Parent Resource Center has received a $50,000 Boost Nassau grant – funds that the organization will apply toward fully funding the operations of its second annual Summer Rocks! youth enrichment program.
Operating Monday through Wednesday for six weeks from July 8 to August 14, Summer Rocks! is an early childhood (rising pre-K and kindergarteners) program that seeks to provide affordable, high-quality enrichment services in a setting that helps children build lasting friendships.
PRC has more than 600 members and utilizes qualified instructors to present parenting workshops, social events and recreational outlets in addition to its “Stepping Stones” program and a myriad of other youth enrichment programs based in Port Washington and the Sands Point Preserve.
Boost Nassau grants are funded through a portion of Nassau County’s $385 million allotment of federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) COVID-19 relief funds.
“The Parent Resource Center Summer Rocks! program was supported in whole by the Boost Nassau program, which was funded by the U.S. Department of the Treasury's coronavirus state and local fiscal recovery funds program,” said Nicole Asselta, Executive Director of the Parent Resource Center. “Through Boost Nassau's funding, we've empowered the youngest learners in our community with summer enrichment programs, addressing the critical need for early childhood summer education and supporting families facing economic challenges during these unprecedented times."
“Initiatives like the Parent Resource Center’s Summer Rocks! program are exactly the type of efforts that I want to see being funded by Nassau’s federal pandemic relief funds,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “This is a shining example of the good that can be accomplished through wise use of our American Rescue Plan Act dollars, and I am delighted that we were able to work with Nicole and her team to fully fund an impressive program that will enrich the lives of young people throughout the communities we serve.”
