(PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y.) – An important stormwater drainage upgrade is underway in Port Washington, Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) confirmed on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
Earlier this week, Contractor D.F. Stone Contracting, Ltd. embarked upon repair/mitigation measures for a 48” diameter drainage pipe beginning east of Irma Avenue and continuing west of Hillview Avenue in Port Washington. Specifically, the project entails the areas of Irma Avenue between Mullon Avenue and Lannon Place; Hillview Avenue between Mullon Avenue and Mallon Place; Jeanette Drive between Irma Avenue and Annette Drive; and Mullon Avenue between Hillview Avenue and the dead-end of Mullon Avenue.
Officials at the Department of Public Works said that the project required diversion of Baxter’s Brook and other stormwater from the Irma Avenue retaining basin. Noise reducing barriers were erected to buffer residents from the noise created by continuous, around-the-clock pumping necessary to complete the project.
“At a time when it seems the intensity and frequency of rainstorm are constantly on the rise, it is so important for Nassau County to invest in regular improvements and repairs to its drainage infrastructure – especially on the Port Washington peninsula,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “I am very glad we were able to bring this project to Port Washington, and I will continue to keep a close eye on critical infrastructure issues in our district and across the County.”
