(GLEN COVE, N.Y.) - Glen Cove’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is always a great way to celebrate the holiday – one filled with festive music and performances that delight spectators along a shamrock-flecked parade route lined with hundreds of spectators of all ages.
Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) is especially proud to march in the parade each year because her father, Donald DeRiggi, launched the parade in 1989 while serving as Glen Cove Mayor. He started the parade in part at the suggestion of his wife, Millie (nee Murphy), who has always taken great pride in her Irish heritage.
On Sunday, March 17, current Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck and the City Council paid tribute to the originators of this cherished Glen Cove tradition by posing for a photo with Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton and her parents after they spotted them along the parade route.
“Whether you’re Irish or not, the Glen Cove St. Patrick’s Day Parade is a wonderful event for the entire family to enjoy,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “Congratulations to Grand Marshal Christine Rice and the entire parade committee who works so hard to keep this tradition thriving year after year!”
