(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – On Dec. 14, 2023, the New York Civil Liberties Union issued a Notice of Violation to Nassau County, alleging that the district maps adopted by the Legislature that go into effect on Jan. 1, 2024 violate the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act of New York.
The following is a statement from Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader-Elect Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) –
“The members of the Minority Caucus voted against the map that the Republican majority passed and County Executive Blakeman signed because of the illegal political and racial gerrymandering contained within it,” Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader-Elect Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) said. “Our position remains that any reasonable review by the courts will result in this map being struck down as a violation of the voting rights of Nassau County residents.”
