DeRiggi-Whitton Receives Update on Baxter’s Pond Park Improvements

DeRiggi-Whitton - Baxters Pond Park Update

(BAXTER ESTATES, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) met with leaders of the Baxter’s Pond Foundation, Minority Counsel and former Nassau County Legislator Wayne Wink, and representatives of Nassau County’s Department of Public Works on Wednesday, March 13 to receive a status update on the County-funded capital project at Baxter’s Pond, which is located within the County’s Barbara Johnson Park & Preserve.

With spring on the horizon, the latest improvements - funded through capital plan resources secured by Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton - include the addition of indigenous plants as part of a multiyear holistic landscaping plan. Previous work included the replacing and resetting of pavers; installation of new benches and garbage receptacle; improvements to lighting; and pruning of some trees. Separately, the foundation’s co-founder and past President Nancy Comer raised funds to restore the cottage on the property that now bears her name.

“After so many years of hard work, it is truly gratifying to see the progress we have made through our collaboration on this endeavor,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “Baxter’s Pond is a beautiful and tranquil treasure in the Port Washington area, and I am excited to work with Foundation co-presidents and Kim and John Keiserman on bringing even more improvements to fruition at Baxter’s Pond in the near future.”
