(MINEOLA and GLEN COVE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) welcomed Lela Watson, founder and president of the Glen Cove-based not-for-profit I Am My Sister, as a guest speaker at her Friday, April 4 legislative staff meeting.
I Am My Sister’s mission is to empower girls and women through programs focused on health and wellness, positive self-image, leadership, advocacy, and career exploration while building a sense of community amongst sisters. In pursuit of that mission, the organization will be hosting a special prom edition of its “My Big Sister’s Closet” series at Glen Cove High School on Saturday, April 26 – an uplifting opportunity for young ladies to select a free prom dress in a curated, boutique-like setting.
“I Am My Sister truly embodies the spirit of inclusivity and cooperation that makes Glen Cove such a special and caring community – and the driving force behind those efforts are Lela Watson,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “She is a tireless advocate for the success of our women and young girls in Glen Cove, and I know our staff was tremendously inspired by her passion for this vital mission.”
