WHAT – Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D – Glen Cove) is teaming up with Greenberg Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology and dermatologist Dr. Eve Lupenko Ferrante to provide free skin cancer screenings at the Glen Cove Senior Center from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Friday, May 2.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, approximately 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70, and more people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the U.S. than all other cancers combined. However, when detected early, the five-year survival rate for melanoma is 99 percent.
“Routine skin exams are important for everyone, but as we age and have to deal with the challenges caused by a lifetime of sun exposure, it’s even more important to be screened regularly,” Minority Leader DeRiggi-Whitton said. “With early detection, the five-year rate of survival for melanoma is 99 percent – and that’s what makes opportunities like our skin cancer screening event so important. I thank Dr. Greenberg and Dr. Lupenko for their ongoing commitment to improving skin health in our community, and I encourage residents to take advantage of this free service.”
Screenings are available by appointment only. Anyone interested in signing up should call Lisa at 516-364-8200 and mention they would like to participate in the free screening event.
