(GLEN COVE, N.Y.) – In observance of the holy month of Ramadan, Nassau County Legislator Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) joined with the Muslim American Community of Syosset for their annual Iftar celebration on Sunday, April 2.
During Ramadan, Muslims dedicate a month toward fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. Iftar, the meal eaten after breaking the day’s fast, is often used as a community-building opportunity to gather and share a meal after the sunset call to prayer Maghrib. The holy month concludes this year on April 20 with the celebration of Eid.
As part of the evening’s festivities, Legislator Drucker and Dr. Uzma Syed presented a Nassau County Legislature Citation to South Woods Middle School Principal Michelle Burget in recognition of her dedication and commitment to the Syosset community.
“Through its ongoing community outreach efforts, the Muslim American Community of Syosset has been instrumental in bringing people from diverse cultures, religions, and beliefs together to share in the historic customs of Islam,” Legislator Drucker said. “I thank Dr. Syed and all of the members and leaders of the Muslim American Community of Syosset for hosting this event during the holy month of Ramadan and sharing their beautiful traditions with the community.”
