Legislators Mulé and Koslow, Cedarmore Corporation Present Summer Farmers’ Market at Baldwin LIRR St

Cedarmore Farmers Market

(BALDWIN, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislators Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) and Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) are partnering with the Freeport-based Cedarmore Corporation to host their annual seasonal Farmers’ Market at the Baldwin LIRR station’s Parking Field BA-5. The market is scheduled to operate from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. every Saturday (weather permitting) from July 20 to Oct. 12.

Local youth are hired each year to operate the market, which features an array of local produce and specialties including corn, greens, lettuce, tomatoes, fresh eggs, organic honey and more. Most produce is picked fresh that morning from east end Long Island farms. In addition, special programs featuring DJs, authors, artistic dance performances, local vendors and more are scheduled throughout the season.

“The Cedarmore Corporation’s farmers’ market is a tradition that I look forward to every summer because of how it brings farm-fresh produce into the heart of Nassau County,” Legislator Mulé said. “It is a pleasure to once again support this program, and I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday mornings in Baldwin.”

“Not only does the Cedarmore Corporation’s farmers market provide Nassau County residents with convenient access to the freshest and healthiest produce around, it is entirely operated and overseen by local youth, and that experience equips them with important skills and experiences that will serve them well in the future,” Legislator Koslow said. “I am excited to join forces with the Cedarmore Corporation in support of this innovative program.”

Patrons can get more information about the market by calling Dr. Sheila Lyle Maxwell at 678-471-9012. In addition to cash and credit card payments, the market accepts Special Supplemental Nutrition Program (SNAP) benefits and Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) vouchers. FMNP vouchers are distributed by the WIC office, and Senior FMNP vouchers are distributed by the Nassau County Office for The Aging.

This year’s market is presented in partnership with the New York State FreshConnect Program; Nassau County’s Department of Human Services and Office of Youth Services; the Nassau County Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and the HempsteadWorks Career Center, with special thanks to Town of Hempstead Deputy Supervisor Dorothy Goosby for her continued support.
