Nassau County Legislator Bill Gaylor joined with Valley Stream Mayor Edwin Fare, members of the Villages Beautification Committee, members of the Village workforce, Key Club members and volunteers to help plant trees at the orchard in Arlington Park in Valley Stream. The event was in honor of the Arbor Day holiday.
“Thank you everyone that came out to plant trees for the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day,” Legislator Gaylor said. “It’s important we keep our air clean, and our environment healthy, and our trees alive.”
Legislator Gaylor, along with the Malverne Village Board, the Hempstead Town Board, and Malverne residents, also planted a tree at the gazebo near the Malverne Train Station in memory of Joseph J. Schutta and Carol Schutta for Arbor Day to keep their memory alive in the community and serve as an inspiration to others.
The Schuttas were long-time residents of Malverne and very active in the community, including Our Lady of Lourdes parish. Carol was also a teacher, and Joseph was a Marine and NYPD officer.
