On February 2nd, Legislator Bill Gaylor joined with Malverne village officials and Town Receiver of Taxes Jeanine Driscoll to find out if Nassau County’s resident groundhog, Malverne Mel, would predict an early Spring or 6 more weeks of winter.
Unfortunately, after consulting with Malverne Mayor Keith Corbett, Mel revealed he had seen his shadow, resulting in 6 more weeks of Winter. For comparisons sake, Punxsutawney Phil agreed with Mel, but Staten Island Chuck and Holtsville Hal disagreed. Meteorologists say Spring starts March 20th.
This was Malverne’s 27th annual Groundhog Day with Malverne Mel. The event was held at Mel’s home at Crossroads Farm at Grossman’s in Malverne.
